Owen Greene serves as Professor of International Development within the School of Social Sciences at the University of Bradford's Faculty of Management, Law & Social Sciences. His extensive academic career spans decades of research and international consultancy focused on security-development interlinkages.
His research interests encompass conflict and security studies, international development frameworks, peace-building and statebuilding processes, arms export controls (including EU, Wassenaar Arrangements, MTCR and NSG), small arms and light weapons regulation, democratic governance in fragile states, and security sector reform. His work has particular regional focus on Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and East Asia.
Professor Greene has authored or co-authored 9 books and over 240 research articles, reports, or book chapters, while also editing or co-editing more than 15 books on related subjects. His publications reflect deep engagement with international security arrangements and environmental cooperation frameworks.

His professional activities include directing significant research initiatives such as the Conflict, Security and Development program for UK Department for International Development (2002-2006), Swedish International Development Aid Helpdesk (2006-2016), and the MOD Short Course Programme (2005-present). He has consulted for over 15 governments including USA, Canada, Japan, and European nations, as well as for the UN, EU, and OSCE on arms control and security matters.
Professor Greene maintains active field experience across Eastern Europe, Former USSR/Central Asia, multiple African regions, the Balkans, South Caucasus, the Caribbean, Middle East, and Asia, conducting projects related to security, governance, and conflict prevention.
