Outi Kaltio serves as a Lecturer in Latin language at the Faculty of Theology, University of Helsinki, with a focus on Church History. Holding a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Helsinki, her academic career spans teaching Latin to ~150 theology students annually and developing educational materials.
- Education: Ph.D. in Latin language and literature (2020), M.A. in Latin language and literature (2005)
Her research centers on Latin philology, textual history, and the transformation of medieval texts, particularly through projects like the text-critical analysis of Constantine the African's Pantegni, Theorica – Europe's first Greek/Byzantine/Arabic medical compendium. She has contributed to understanding textual evolution across manuscripts like Codex Eö.II.14 and exploring interactions between traditional Roman religion and Christianity.
Recent publications show a consistent focus on medieval medical knowledge transmission (2008-2023) and manuscript studies, with methodological expertise in textual criticism, transcription, and historical lexicography. She received the Teacher of the Year award in 2015 and actively participates in academic events like the Doctoral Conferment Ceremony of the Faculty of Theology (2017) and Antiikin kielet ja teologia conference (2023).
