Osman Balci

Osman Balci is a Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Mobile/Cloud Software Engineering Lab at Virginia Tech. His primary affiliation is with the College of Engineering's Department of Computer Science, which offers graduate and undergraduate programs. He holds a Ph.D. from Syracuse University (1981) and advanced degrees from Boğaziçi University (Turkey).

His research focuses on software engineering, cloud computing, digital game-based learning, modeling/simulation methodologies, and verification/validation processes. Notable projects include the GAMES NSF grant (2011-2015) for game-based STEM education and collaborations with NASA, the U.S. Navy, and Missile Defense Agency on simulation validation frameworks.

He has authored over 150 publications and serves as Editor-in-Chief of ACM's SIGSIM Modeling and Simulation Knowledge Repository. His advisory roles include leadership in the ACM SIGSIM and Society for Modeling & Simulation International.
