Orla Stapleton is an Assistant Professor of Development Studies at the Keough School of Global Affairs, University of Notre Dame. She specializes in organizational sociology, cultural sociology, and qualitative methods, with research interests in social interaction, social solidarity, and business in community. She joined the Keough School after research roles at INSEAD's Humanitarian Research Group and Indiana University's Kelley School of Business.

- BA in Philosophy and History from University College Dublin
Her research focuses on the social meaning of alternative exchange practices among small business owners and the evolution of academic ideas into "public ideas" through media influence. She has published in top journals like American Sociological Review and Journal of Operations Management, with early work (2013) in humanitarian logistics. Her work bridges sociology, organizational theory, and development studies.
Stapleton's awards include the 2020 Clifford Geertz Award for Best Article from the American Sociological Association's Culture Section and multiple Best Paper Awards. She is also an award-winning instructor, authoring four pedagogical case studies with the European Case Clearing House. At Notre Dame, she teaches courses such as Global Ireland and Research Methods Integration Lab.
