Dr. Onur METİN is a Lecturer at Taskopru Vocational School, Kastamonu University, where he serves as the Department Head of the Electricity and Energy Department. He has been working at Kastamonu University since 2011, initially as a Lecturer and later taking on administrative roles including Department Head from 2011-2020 and again from 2025, as well as serving as Vice Director of the Vocational School from 2012-2016.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Physics from Kastamonu University (2017-2023)
- BSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Kastamonu University (2019-2020)
- Master's Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Karabük University (2011-2016)
- BSc in Electrical Education from Gazi University (2002-2006)
Dr. METİN's primary research focus is in Nuclear Physics, with particular emphasis on radiological risk assessment, natural radioactivity in geological materials, and environmental monitoring. His work extensively examines bentonite minerals, analyzing their radioactive element content, radiogenic heat production, and associated health risks for workers in quarrying industries. He also investigates heavy metal pollution in water and soil samples, with applications to environmental protection and public health.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward interdisciplinary research combining nuclear physics with environmental science and occupational health. He has published extensively on the radiological characteristics of bentonite and other minerals used in industrial applications, with a focus on measuring radioactive elements, calculating radiogenic heat, and assessing health risks for workers. His work spans both theoretical analysis and practical field measurements across Turkey.
Dr. METİN has collaborated extensively with researchers from Kastamonu University, particularly with Şeref Turhan (16 joint publications), Aslı Kurnaz (10 joint publications), and Aybaba Hançerlioğulları (8 joint publications). His research has been supported by institutional projects including "Determination of Radioactive Elements in Bentonite Quarries and Radiological Evaluation of Bentonites as Additive Raw Materials in Various Sectors" (2020-2022) and "Operation of Asynchronous Machine as Motor/Generator with Field-Oriented Control and its Application" (2014-2016).
