Ondřej Vicher is an Assistant Professor at the Chinese Studies Seminar, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, Brno. He holds a Ph.D. and teaches courses on Chinese literature, history, and translation. His email is vicher.ondrej@phil.muni.cz. He is actively engaged in research and supervision of bachelor's and master's theses.
Vicher's research focuses on Chinese literature, especially classical novels like Jin Ping Mei, and their translation into Czech. He examines textual variants, cultural context, and challenges in translating poetry and prose. His work bridges translation studies and sinology, with an emphasis on reception in the Czech Republic.
His recent publications (2022-2025) analyze the Czech translation of Jin Ping Mei, covering introductory poems, sensitive vocabulary, and edition differences. Themes include cultural adaptation, poetic reconstruction, and the interplay of linguistic and cultural factors in translation.
Vicher supervises bachelor's and master's theses in Chinese Studies. He teaches courses including History of China, Modern Chinese Literature, and Translation Seminars. He is a researcher in the project 'Translation workshop and support for other student academic activities' (MUNI/A/1679/2024) funded by Masaryk University for 2025.
As a member of the Chinese Studies Seminar, Vicher collaborates with colleagues, notably Lucie Oliva, on the Czech translation of Jin Ping Mei.
