Ondrej Sefl

Dr. Ondrej Sefl is a researcher at the Professorship for High Voltage Engineering within the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at ETH Zürich. His work focuses on diagnostics and aging of solid insulation materials under non-standard electrical stresses, particularly partial discharges in turn-turn insulation of electric induction motors and wedge-shaped dielectric-bounded air gaps.

Research interests center on partial discharge inception voltage (PDIV) modeling under varying temperature, pressure, and humidity conditions, with applications in electric aviation and electric vehicles. Key projects include parametrization of PDIV scaling laws and thermally-induced permittivity changes in polymer coatings.

Recent publications (2023–2025) in the Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics and IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation address topics like pressure-temperature effects on PDIV, frequency dependence in twisted pairs, and measurement limitations in induction motor insulation. Collaborators include Christian Franck and Raphael Färber.
