Omer Bartov is a Professor at Brown University and a leading scholar in Holocaust and genocide studies. His research focuses on the Wehrmacht's role in the Holocaust, interethnic relations in Galicia, and the transformation of multiethnic societies into genocidal violence. He delivered the 7th annual Hugo Valentin Lecture at Uppsala University, examining the destruction of Buczacz (Bučač) in Eastern Galicia during 1941-1944, a town notable as the birthplace of S.Y. Agnon, Emanuel Ringelblum, and Simon Wiesenthal.
