Omar Besbes is the Vikram S. Pandit Professor of Business at Columbia University’s Columbia Business School, affiliated with the Decision, Risk, and Operations Division. He holds a PhD from Columbia University (2008), an MSc from Stanford University (2000), and an engineering degree from École Polytechnique, France (1999). Prior to Columbia, he was on the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.
His research focuses on data-driven decision-making in e-commerce, pricing, revenue management, and operations management. Notable awards include the 2019 Frederick W. Lanchester Prize and the 2017 M&SOM Young Scholar Prize. He teaches core MBA courses in Operations Management and Business Analytics, earning accolades for teaching excellence.
Recent work explores dynamic pricing, online advertising, and algorithmic decision-making under uncertainty. His articles address challenges in marketplace design, robust optimization, and strategic behavior in energy markets. Besbes actively contributes to academic leadership via editorial roles at Management Science and Operations Research.
