Dr. Oluwatoyin Adejonwo serves as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and holds an honorary Senior Lecturer position at Dundee Law School, University of Dundee, UK. She is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at the FAU Research Center for Human Rights Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU CHREN) and founding Director of the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainable Development (3CSD). Additionally, she co-chairs the Climate Mobility Africa Research Network (CMARN), a multidisciplinary bilingual network addressing climate-induced displacement across Africa.
Her research critically examines the intersection of climate justice, human rights, and social protection frameworks in African contexts. She investigates how Just Transition principles can enhance climate resilience through social protection mechanisms, with particular focus on Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa. Her work analyzes climate change as an amplifier of social disparities and evaluates adaptation/mitigation strategies including Loss and Damage Funds. Current projects map country-specific commitments to environmental justice through legal norms and policy implementation.
As founding Director of 3CSD, she leads institutional initiatives on sustainable development policy. Through CMARN, she coordinates cross-border research on climate mobility involving policymakers and academics across Francophone and Anglophone Africa. Her recent engagements include presentations at Harvard Law School's Climate Justice Series 2024 and the upcoming FAU CHREN Human Rights Colloquium in June 2025.
