Dr Olu Taiwo is an Associate Professor (Reader) in Acting and Digital Research at the University of Winchester, affiliated with the Faculty of Education and the Arts. He specializes in performance philosophy, West African performance practices, and interdisciplinary transcultural studies. His work explores the intersection of body, technology, and environment, particularly through his technique 'Urban Butoh,' developed in collaboration with Johannes Birringer’s Dap-lab project. He serves as Director of Transcultural Studies at the international institute ‘the Making of the Actor’ in Athens.
Research interests include digital performance interfaces, Yoruba cultural practices, and the urban/rural dichotomy. His publications span from foundational texts on virtual embodiment to contemporary explorations of spirituality in technology. He actively supervises postgraduate research in areas like choreological studies and street arts.
Notable performances and lecture demonstrations globally highlight his practice-as-research approach, emphasizing 'effort' and 'performative actions.' A 2020 retrospective of his work was featured in Wiltshire Creatives’ ‘Artist of the Week’ series.
