Olli Silvennoinen is Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine, Tampere University (since 2017). He concurrently serves as Director of Biocenter Finland (2021–present) and previously directed the Helsinki Institute of Life Sciences HiLIFE (2019–2022), the Institute of Biotechnology at the University of Helsinki (2018–2019), and the Institute of Medical Technology at the University of Tampere (2001–2010). He was Professor of Medical Biochemistry at the University of Tampere (2010–2016) and held a Visiting Professorship at Yale University (2013–2014).
Research interests span hematological malignancies, protein kinases and pseudokinases, cytokine signalling, transcriptional regulation, molecular immunology and inflammatory diseases.
Distinctions include election to the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters in 2002 and knighthood in the Order of the White Rose of Finland in 2005.
