Olli-Pekka Vainio is a Professor of Dogmatics at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Theology and serves as a supervisor for the Doctoral Programme in Theology and Religious Studies. He is also affiliated with the Center of Theological Inquiry in Princeton and the University of St. Andrews SETI Post-Detection Hub.
His research focuses on contemporary systematic theology, analytic theology, theological epistemology, Reformation theology, and political theology. Current projects address ideological and religious extremism alongside belief formation in modern society.
Scientific awards include the

- University of St. Andrews Senior Global Fellow recognition (2024)
He has led NASA-funded research on astrobiology's societal implications and participated in the Academy of Finland's National Centres of Excellence projects.
