Olivier Trescases

Olivier Trescases is a Full Professor at the University of Toronto in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering within the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. He also holds the Canada Research Chair in Power Electronic Converters and serves as Director of the U of T Electric Vehicle Research Centre.

• Assistant Professor at University of Toronto (2009–present)

His research focuses on high-efficiency switched-mode power converters for automotive, aerospace, industrial, and renewable energy applications. Key expertise areas include:

• Energy management systems
• High-frequency/high-density power electronics
• Battery management systems for electric vehicles
• Power integrated circuits with wide bandgap semiconductors

Scientific honors include multiple IEEE best paper awards, ECE Teaching and Gordon Slemon Awards, City of Toronto Green Innovation Award, and leadership roles in IEEE Toronto Section. He has co-invented over 20 patents and served as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics.

Currently leading multi-disciplinary collaborations with automotive OEMs and suppliers through the U of T Electric Vehicle Research Centre, he also developed Porsche Canada’s National Electromobility Certification Program (2022).
