معرفی
Oliver Pybus is a British biologist and Professor at both the Royal Veterinary College (London) and the University of Oxford (Department of Zoology, 20% FTE). He also serves as Vice-Principal for Research & Innovation at the Royal Veterinary College (80% time) and co-directs the Oxford Martin School Program for Pandemic Genomics. His research bridges evolutionary biology and infectious disease epidemiology.
- Education: B.Sc. in genetics from the University of Nottingham (studied under Bryan Clarke), DPhil from the University of Oxford (2000, supervised by Paul Harvey).
Research Interests: Pybus pioneered phylodynamics—using genetic data to study virus evolution and spread. His work spans phylogenetics, genomics, virology, and mathematical biology, focusing on pathogens like HIV, influenza, and SARS-CoV-2. He integrates computational methods with evolutionary theory to address global health challenges.
Honours and Awards:
- Elected Fellow of the Royal Society (2022)
- Mary Lyon Medal of the Genetics Society (2019)
- ERC Consolidator Award (2014)
- Zoological Society of London Scientific Medal (2009)
Additional Roles: Editor-in-chief of Virus Evolution and co-director of the Oxford Martin School’s Pandemic Genomics program. He has held fellowships from the Royal Society (2004–2012) and Wellcome Trust (2002–2004), underscoring his contributions to pathogen evolutionary dynamics.
