Oliver Lemon is a Professor at Heriot-Watt University's School of Mathematical & Computer Sciences, leading the Interaction Lab and co-leading the National Robotarium. He works on Generative AI, NLP, and Interactive Robotics, with over 200 peer-reviewed publications.

His research focuses on reinforcement learning in spoken dialogue systems, user-adaptive natural language generation, and Human-Robot Interaction in healthcare settings. Recent work explores Large Language Models (LLMs) for social robots, including hospital applications and multimodal task completion in 3D environments.
His academic network includes collaborations with Amazon (Alexa Challenge finalist 2017, 2018, 2023), University of Edinburgh, and Stanford University. He has secured funding for H2020, EC FP7, and EPSRC projects, including SPRING (generative AI in healthcare) and MuMMER (socially intelligent robots).
He serves on editorial boards of Transactions of the Association for Computational Linguistics, ACM Transactions on Interactive Intelligent Systems, and Dialogue and Discourse. Scientific awards include the Amazon Alexa Challenge Prize (2016).
