Oliver Bendel

Oliver Bendel is a Professor at the Institute for Information Systems, School of Business, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW). He holds a M.A. in Philosophy and German Philology, a diploma in Information Science, and a Dr. oec. in Information Systems from the University of St. Gallen. His career includes roles as a project manager and director of technical/scientific institutions such as the Competence Center E-Learning (HSG) and the Center for Innovation, Media and Technologies (Weingarten).

His research focuses on information ethics, machine ethics, robot ethics, e-learning, knowledge management, and social media. He has authored over 250 publications, including books like Handbuch Maschinenethik and articles on ethical implications of AI, robotics, and automation. He frequently contributes to journals like Telepolis and Springer Gabler’s Wirtschaftslexikon.

Bendel teaches courses on information ethics, business ethics, and innovation management. His projects explore ethical AI, robotic applications in healthcare, education, and service industries. He advises student projects involving GenAI, chatbots, and ethical robotics.

He is a member of the Society for Informatics (GI), International Center for Information Ethics (ICIE), and served on juries for the German Internet Institute and Bundestag expert panels.
