Olga Shonia is a Professor in the Education Department at Capital University. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies (2011) and M.S. in History and Philosophy of Education (2009) from Indiana University, along with a Ph.D. in Linguistics and TESOL (1996) from Ivanovo State University/Oslo University.

Her research focuses on the internationalization of teacher education, TESOL/ESL literacy, and advocacy through cultural immersion projects. She directs the Intercultural Student Teaching Program, offering overseas and Navajo Reservation student teaching opportunities.
Recent publications explore intersections of the SIOP model with Universal Design for Learning, refugee family partnerships, and global citizenship education. Her work emphasizes removing language barriers, culturally relevant pedagogy, and long-term impacts of immersive teaching experiences.
She teaches courses including EDUC 101, EDUC 151, and graduate-level education classes.
