Olga Hawn

Olga Hawn is an Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Kenan-Flagler Business School, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and serves as the Faculty Director of the Ackerman Center for Excellence in Sustainability. Her research focuses on corporate sustainability, non-market strategy, and emerging markets. She holds a PhD from Duke University, a Master’s in Management Research from Oxford University, and degrees in Economics and International Business from the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.

Dr. Hawn’s work examines the strategic implications of corporate social responsibility (CSR), environmental governance, and cross-border expansion by firms from emerging markets like BRICS nations. She explores how CSR influences firm legitimacy, acquisition success, and stakeholder perceptions. Her research has been published in top journals including Strategic Management Journal and Academy of Management Review.

Her accolades include the ONE Emerging Scholar Award (2018), multiple ARCS conference paper awards (2014–2016), and recognition as a top 40-under-40 professor by Poets & Quants. She currently serves as Associate Editor of the Strategic Management Journal and on editorial boards for Organization Science and others.

Dr. Hawn’s teaching focuses on global strategy, sustainability, and emerging markets, with awards for her innovative MBA and PhD courses. She leads the Ackerman Center, advancing sustainability solutions through interdisciplinary collaboration and executive education programs.
