Olga Garaschuk

Olga Garaschuk is a Full Professor (W3) and Chair of the Department of Neurophysiology at the Institute of Physiology, University of Tuebingen, Germany, since 2008. She has held academic positions at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Technical University Munich, and University of Saarland, with affiliations at international institutions like the Marine Biological Laboratory (USA) and Academia Europaea (since 2019).

Education:

• Ph.D. in Biology, Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology, Kyiv, Ukraine (1992)

Research Interests: Garaschuk studies cross-talk between neural and immune systems, focusing on neuroinflammation, microglia physiology, neurodegeneration (particularly Alzheimer’s disease), and integration of adult-born neurons into existing networks. Her work also explores neural network dynamics during development, aging, and sleep-memory relationships.

• Irène Curie Stipend (University of Saarland, 1997-2000)

Leadership & Service: Garaschuk chairs the PhD program "Experimental Medicine" at Tuebingen (since 2020), serves as President of the German Physiological Society (since 2025), and holds editorial roles including Executive Editor of Pflügers Archiv-European Journal of Physiology (since 2018). She actively participates in international research review panels and advisory boards, including the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action for Ukraine.
