Olga Baron serves as an Assistant Professor in the School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science at University College Dublin's Conway Institute. Her academic journey began with a Dip Biology from the University of Rostock, Germany, followed by a Dr rer nat from Universitaet Hannover, and culminated in a PhD in Systems Neuroscience from Hannover Medical School where she was supervised by Professor Claudia Grothe.

Dr. Baron's research focuses on nociception mechanisms using adult Drosophila models to study molecular pathways activated in peripheral somatosensory neurons upon injury. Her work aims to identify molecular mechanisms and markers involved in nociceptive sensitization that mimic human chronic pain conditions, facilitating the development of genetic biosensor tools for pharmacological studies. She investigates how autophagy pathways intersect with neurodegenerative processes, particularly in polyglutamine diseases like DRPLA.
Analysis of her publication record reveals a strong trajectory from developmental neuroscience toward pain mechanisms and autophagy-related neurodegeneration.
