معرفی
Ola Wallberg is a Professor and Assistant Head of Department at the Department of Process and Life Science Engineering, Faculty of Engineering (LTH), Lund University. He serves as Office Director and is a key member of two LTH Profile Areas: The Energy Transition and Food and Bio. His work bridges academic research and industrial application, focusing on sustainable chemical processes.
His research expertise lies in separation technology, industrial biotechnology, sustainable process development, and process integration. He is particularly known for his work on biomass refining, lignin recovery, biofuels, membrane filtration, and techno-economic analysis of biorefinery processes. His contributions support the transition from fossil-based to circular, bio-based economies.
The recent articles highlight a consistent trend toward biomass valorization, waste-to-resource conversion, and membrane-based separation in biorefineries. Topics include lignin fractionation using GVL-organosolv, enzymatic hydrolysis of post-consumer viscose, co-fermentation of agro-waste for lactic acid, and molasses purification for HMF production. These reflect a strong interdisciplinary focus on sustainability, efficiency, and industrial scalability.
Ola Wallberg leads and participates in multiple research projects, including LUPPP (Lund University Pre-Pilot Plant) and STAR (Sustainable biobased furan platform). He is Principal Investigator (PI) on several funded projects, such as KETN20: Sustainable process design and Extern testanläggning - Krinova AB. His collaborations span academia and industry, with a focus on translating research into practical solutions.
He is actively involved in research infrastructure, managing both the Lund University Pre-Pilot Plant and the Process Development Unit for biorefinery processes. He has organized major events like Engineering with Membranes 2019, demonstrating leadership in the membrane technology community.
