Ola Leifler is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA) at Linköping University. His research focuses on leveraging large-scale social simulations (megagames) to facilitate dialogue around complex societal challenges such as energy transition and sustainable development. He is affiliated with the Human-Centered Systems (HCS) research group and contributes to the Software and Systems (SAS) division. His work bridges computer science, education, and sustainability, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration.
Leifler teaches courses like Megagame Design for Sustainable Development (ETE367/TDDE50), integrating sustainability into computing education. He leads projects like Switching the Current, funded by the Swedish Energy Agency (SEK 9 million), which develops megagames to explore energy system transformation. His research also includes analyzing citizen perspectives on climate adaptation through megagame participation.
Leifler’s contributions extend to improving software engineering practices, including test prioritization and CI/CD pipeline optimization. He is part of Linköping University’s Didacticum pedagogical excellence center, advancing innovative teaching methods. His work has been published in venues like ACM Transactions on Computing Education and IEEE conferences, addressing topics ranging from systems thinking in game design to sustainable computing education frameworks.
