Oded Haklai

Oded Haklai is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Studies at Queen’s University, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Science. He holds cross-appointments at the Centre for International and Defence Policy and the Centre for the Study of Democracy and Diversity. His research focuses on nationalism, ethnicity, Middle East politics, and Israeli-Palestinian relations, with particular attention to settlers in contested territories and state-minority dynamics.

Education: B.A. (Hebrew University of Jerusalem), M.A. (University of British Columbia), Ph.D. (University of Toronto).

Research Highlights: Authored Palestinian Ethnonationalism in Israel (2011, Shapiro Prize-winning), conducted SSHRC-funded studies on settler politics, and led the Laboratory for Ethnic Conflict Research since 2015.

Awards: Shapiro Prize (2012), teaching nomination (2013), and multiple grants including SSHRC Insight Grant ($122k).

Labs/Teams: Director of Laboratory for Ethnic Conflict Research, active in interdisciplinary research networks on ethnic conflict and Middle Eastern studies.
