Octavian Postolache

Octavian Postolache is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Department of Information Science and Technology (DCTI) of ISCTE - Lisbon University Institute. He serves as Director of the Doctoral Program in Information Science and Technology and as Director of the Telecommunications Institute Delegation. Additionally, he is a Senior Researcher at the Telecommunications Institute, an IEEE Lecturer, and President of the IEEE IMS Portuguese Chapter.

His research interests span IoT systems for healthcare, smart sensors for biomedical applications, ubiquitous computing, embedded artificial intelligence, and VR/AR environments supporting physical therapy. He actively participates in national and international research teams, including Portuguese, EU, and global projects.

Recent publications highlight his work on: maritime AI for ship detection and trajectory prediction; IoT security using blockchain and ensemble methods; digital twin applications for horticulture and port automation; and embedded systems for biomedical calibration and environmental monitoring. His articles emphasize IoT integration, AI-driven optimization, and real-time data processing across diverse domains like healthcare, agriculture, and industrial logistics.

Octavian contributes to advancing smart sensing and digital twin frameworks, particularly in healthcare and precision agriculture. His work bridges machine vision, sensor calibration, and network reliability in challenging environments, such as remote rural areas and maritime operations.

He leads initiatives in IoT standardization and embedded AI, collaborating with institutions like the Telecommunications Institute and IEEE. His research explores non-intrusive cardiorespiratory assessment, UWB indoor localization, and stress monitoring via physiological parameters.
