Nuria Polo-Perez is a Lecturer (teaching) in Spanish at Durham University's School of Modern Languages and Cultures, affiliated with the Centre for Foreign Language Study (CFLS). She is also a Research Student in the School of Education. Her academic journey includes a PhD from Durham University, an MA in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, and a degree in Translation and Interpreting Studies from the Autonomous University of Madrid.
Her research focuses on multilingualism and interculturality, particularly through language cafés as informal learning spaces. She developed the concept of the 'multilingual social self,' emphasizing how multilingual identities are co-constructed through social interaction. Key interests include translanguaging, ecological approaches to language research, and reflexive methodologies.
Her publications explore language cafés' role in emotion work, identity construction, and multilingual data management. She advocates for pedagogical practices that transcend traditional classroom roles, prioritizing authentic multilingual experiences.
