Dr. Nourou Barry is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the Genetic Engineering and Society (GES) Center at North Carolina State University, where he researches public and stakeholder attitudes toward genetically engineered technologies and organisms. He is also actively involved with the Sciences and Technologies for Phosphorus Sustainability (STEPS) Center and serves on the Societal & Ethical Implications (SEI) team at the NSF-funded PreMiEr Center focused on microbiome engineering.
His research expertise spans:
- Applied Anthropology and Sociology
- Biotechnology and Governance of Emerging Technologies
- Science & Technology Communication
- Stakeholder and Public Engagement
Dr. Barry earned his Ph.D. in Anthropology from Nazi BONI University in Bobo-Dioulasso in 2020. Prior to joining NC State, he developed stakeholder engagement strategies for gene drive research with the Target Malaria consortium in Burkina Faso, and held faculty positions at Nazi BONI University while working as a research associate at the Institute of Health Sciences Research in Bobo-Dioulasso.
