Norman Zhou

Prof. Norman Zhou is a leading academic in materials science and engineering, currently serving as Professor and director of the Centre for Advanced Materials Joining (CAMJ). His work focuses on transformative materials joining techniques, energy harvesting systems, and advanced manufacturing processes. CAMJ, a collaborative hub with over 55 industry partners, has pioneered innovations in automotive, aerospace, and medical industries. Zhou’s research addresses challenges in lightweight materials, zinc-based alloys, laser processing, and sustainable energy solutions. He has been awarded the prestigious NSERC Synergy Award for Innovation for his industry-academia collaborations.

Key research areas include: laser-based joining technologies, hydrovoltaic energy harvesting from natural materials, and defect-engineered semiconductors. His work on weld-brazing processes has enhanced automotive fuel efficiency, while innovations in battery-free sensors address industrial monitoring needs.
