Norman H. Christ is the Ephraim Gildor Professor of Computational Theoretical Physics in the Department of Physics at Columbia University. He leads research in lattice Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), focusing on high-precision calculations to test the Standard Model of particle physics, particularly in areas where the model may fall short such as CP violation phenomena.
His research interests center on high-energy nuclear and particle physics, with specific focus on lattice QCD calculations for kaon physics, CP violation, and precision tests of the Standard Model. Christ develops advanced computational methods to calculate subtle effects like the direct CP violating parameter ε' in K → ππ decay, the hadronic light-by-light contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment, and the extremely small mass difference between neutral K mesons.
