Norizan Tan

Norizan Tan serves as Head of Department for Business, Design and Communication and Lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology's School of Foundation Studies. With 20 years of teaching experience spanning preparatory to adult education levels, she currently instructs Academic & Communication Skills B in the Foundation program.

Her educational qualifications include:

• MA (TESOL) from SUT
• PGrad Dip (TESOL) from RELC
• BEd (Hons) (TESL) from UiTM

Norizan Tan's research centers on Teaching English as a Second Language and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, with innovative integration of drama methodologies to enhance language acquisition and personal development. Her pedagogical approach transforms traditional language instruction through theatrical techniques that build both linguistic competence and student confidence.

Professional recognition includes a Highly Commended award in the Vice Chancellor’s 2018 Culture & Value Award, highlighting her significant contributions to Swinburne's educational environment.

Her career began at the English Language Centre (1995-2009) before transitioning to Swinburne University of Technology, where she combines administrative leadership with classroom instruction. As an active member of the Asian Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (Asia TEFL), she engages with regional language education communities while developing her distinctive drama-based teaching framework for foundation-level students.
