Noreen Mutoro is a Researcher at the University of Salzburg's Department of Environment & Biodiversity, affiliated with the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences. She is currently completing her PhD in natural sciences (2019–2025). Her research focuses on integrated social-ecological conservation studies, utilizing GIS, remote sensing, and fecal detection dogs for carnivore research. She holds an MSc in Biology of Conservation (2012–2016) from the University of Nairobi and a BSc in Wildlife Management and Conservation (2007–2012).
Professional experience includes roles as Assistant Research Scientist (2015–2017), Country Coordinator for TBAAK (2013–2017), and various internships in wildlife conservation. She has strong computer skills in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS), statistical tools (SPSS), and field data collection apps.
Her research interests include species distribution modeling, carnivore dietary analysis, and the application of working dogs in conservation. She has published extensively on cheetah ecology, habitat analysis, and detection dog methodologies in high-impact journals like Animal Cognition and Global Ecology and Conservation.
