Norberto Rodriguez-Baez

Norberto Rodriguez-Baez, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center, specializing in pediatric gastrointestinal and liver diseases. He completed his medical degree and residency at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at Stanford University. Certified in general pediatrics, pediatric gastroenterology, and transplant hepatology, he joined UT Southwestern's faculty in 2001.

His research focuses on viral hepatitis, acute liver failure, and fatty liver disease, with multiple NIH-funded projects. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and serves as a journal reviewer. As an international expert, he has presented in Argentina, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Ecuador.

Dr. Rodriguez-Baez has held leadership roles including Director of the Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship Program (20 years) and Director of pediatric gastroenterology education. In 2022, he was appointed Associate Dean for Student Affairs and received the NASPGHAN Education Excellence Award. He is a member of NASPGHAN, serving as Secretary-Treasurer (2020–2023).

His work emphasizes pediatric liver disease education and clinical practice, with a focus on improving diagnosis specificity and patient outcomes through collaborative approaches. He has been recognized for educational excellence and clinical expertise in pediatric hepatology.
