She has previously instructed General Biology courses (BIOL 1110, 1120, 1130). Her academic background includes dual Master's degrees in Soil Sciences and Microbiology from Auburn University, supported by a Presidential Fellowship and participation in the Peaks of Excellence Graduate Research Program.
Research Interests: Focuses on microbiological safety in food systems (e.g., Salmonella detection via biosensors), gene therapy applications in hematopoietic disorders (canine cyclic hematopoiesis modeling human diseases), zebrafish models for muscle disease studies, and soil microbiology involving waste material reuse (e.g., MDF scrapwood decomposition). She has developed novel laboratory protocols and troubleshooted molecular biology techniques.
Teaching & Lab Expertise: Over 5 years managing research labs with multidisciplinary teams (scientists, students), proficiency in PCR/RT-PCR, Western Blotting, ELISA, and immunofluorescence. Experienced in tissue culture, flow cytometry, and lab safety protocols. Fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Awards:
- Presidential Fellowship for Microbiology (Auburn University)
- Peaks of Excellence Graduate Research Fellow
