Noel W. Anderson is Clinical Assistant Professor of Printmaking in NYU Steinhardt's Department of Art and Art Professions. Holding MFAs in both Printmaking (Indiana University) and Sculpture (Yale), his interdisciplinary practice examines how images construct social identities.
Anderson's research employs philosophical methodologies—semiotic, deconstructive, and epistemological analyses—to investigate mediated representations. His work has been featured in exhibitions at the Studio Museum in Harlem, Art Basel Miami, and The Armory Show, with critical recognition including publications analyzing racial imagery in Ebony and Jet magazines. Previous academic positions include faculty roles at Vanderbilt University, University of Cincinnati, and École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
