Dr. Nkem Adeleye is a Senior Lecturer in Law and Programme Lead at Newman University Law School within the Faculty of Arts, Society and Professional Studies. She holds an LLB (Hons), LLM in International Human Rights, and a PhD focused on the death row phenomenon in the USA and Japan. Her roles include external examining at the University of Essex, external advising for Chichester University, and conference chair positions at Oxford and Dubai ARICON events.

Her research focuses on death row phenomena, international human rights, prisoners’ rights, and modern slavery. Her work combines legal analysis with advocacy for global death penalty abolition, evidenced by presentations at the UN Human Rights Commission and British Society of Criminology.
Her publications span San Diego Law Review, Emerald Publishing, and conference proceedings. She has supervised PhD theses on human trafficking in West Africa and Nigerian criminal justice systems. Her awards include nominations for Law Lecturer of the Year and Engaging Teacher of the Year, alongside Fellowship from Advance HE.
She advises on PhD research (e.g., Nigerian criminal justice systems) and chairs academic conferences. Her professional memberships include Birmingham Law Society and Midlands ARC.
