Nives Dolšak is the Stan and Alta Barer Professor in Sustainability Science and Director of the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs at the University of Washington, Seattle. She holds a Joint Ph.D. in Public Policy and International Relations from Indiana University. Her research focuses on governance of common pool resources, climate policy, and environmental justice, with global case studies ranging from Washington State to Eastern Europe and international climate frameworks. She co-edited The Drama of the Commons (National Academy Press) and The Commons in the New Millennium (MIT Press).
Dr. Dolšak teaches courses on climate governance, international ocean management, and policy analysis. She serves on the Washington Coastal Marine Advisory Council and the Puget Sound Partnership’s Science Panel. Her awards include the UW College of the Environment’s Outstanding Teaching (2013) and Community Impact (2018) awards. She contributes public scholarship via Forbes, Washington Post, and other platforms, addressing climate policy challenges and societal responses to environmental crises.
Education: Joint Ph.D. in Public Policy and International Relations (Indiana University, Bloomington). Professional roles include visiting professorships at the University of Ljubljana and leadership in over 100 peer-reviewed publications. Current projects involve evaluating climate policy impacts, renewable energy siting conflicts, and just transition frameworks in South Africa and the U.S.
