Nir Gadish is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a PhD from the University of Chicago (2019) under Benson Farb, following postdoctoral roles as a Desapio Fellow at the University of Michigan (2021-2024) and a postdoc at MIT (2019-2021). His research focuses on algebraic topology, group theory, and representation theory, with particular emphasis on invariants of group words, low-dimensional topology, and configuration/moduli spaces. He has authored numerous preprints and peer-reviewed publications, including works on spectral sequences, orbit configurations, and representation stability phenomena.
Education:
- PhD in Mathematics, University of Chicago, 2019
- MSc/MA in Mathematics, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 2012
Research interests span algebraic topology (e.g., configuration spaces, spectral sequences), group theory (e.g., word invariants, combinatorial group actions), and representation theory. Recent work emphasizes interdisciplinary applications, such as linking combinatorial group theory with topology through letter-braiding frameworks.
Teaching includes courses at UPenn (Mathematics of Change), the University of Michigan (Coding Theory, Topology), MIT (Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics), and the University of Chicago. He actively mentors students through reading programs and has developed supplementary materials for representation theory and homology courses.
Labs/Teams: Involved in UPenn’s David Rittenhouse Laboratory. Collaborates extensively with researchers like C. Bibby, M. Chan, and D. Sinha on moduli spaces and spectral sequence applications.
