Professor Ninoslav Đelić is a full professor in the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Belgrade. With over 30 years of academic career, he teaches courses in Cell Molecular Biology, Behavior and Molecular Ecology of Wild Animals, Zoology, and Veterinary Genetics. His research spans molecular biology, genetics, and cytogenetics with a strong focus on DNA damage and repair mechanisms.
Professor Đelić's research interests primarily center around molecular mechanisms of DNA damage induced by various compounds including hormones, environmental toxins, and pharmaceuticals. His work extensively investigates the genotoxic effects of substances like adrenaline, thyroxine, estradiol, and triiodothyronine on human and animal cells. A significant portion of his research focuses on Alzheimer's disease, examining cytogenetic alterations in peripheral cells of patients. He has also contributed to studies on veterinary applications, including honey bee health, canine parasitology, and livestock genetics.
His publication record reveals a consistent research trajectory focused on genotoxicity assessment using techniques like the comet assay, micronucleus test, and sister chromatid exchange analysis. Over the past decade, his work has increasingly incorporated natural compounds with antigenotoxic properties, including plant extracts from Balkan endemic species and medicinal mushrooms. His research demonstrates strong interdisciplinary collaboration, often working with colleagues from diverse fields including neurology, endocrinology, and veterinary medicine.
Professor Đelić has co-authored numerous textbooks including 'Zoology,' 'Veterinary Genetics Practice,' and 'Principles of Genetics,' which are used in veterinary education across Serbia. His work bridges basic molecular research with practical veterinary applications, contributing significantly to both theoretical understanding and clinical practice in veterinary medicine.
