Nina Tynkkynen is a Professor in Environmental Governance and Policy at Åbo Akademi University's Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics and Law. She serves as Head of Subject in Public Leadership and Vice Director of the SÅA Center of Excellence in Sustainable Ocean Science (SOS). Her work contributes to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through marine and climate policy research.

Her research focuses on sustainability transitions in multilevel governance contexts, particularly examining governance dynamics, knowledge politics, and policy learning. Current projects include Protect Baltic (2023-2027), Sustainable Finnish Re-manufacturing Industry (2025-2027), and Gendered Norms in Climate Policy (2024-2027).
Recent publications address food packaging sustainability, climate governance challenges, and housing policy integration, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach combining environmental science, political science, and policy analysis.
