Nina Salmon is an Associate Professor of English and Director of Senior Symposium at the University of Lynchburg. She holds a PhD in Social, Political, Ethical, and Cultural Thought (Virginia Tech, 2016), an MEd in English Education (University of Lynchburg, 1993), and a BA in Communication-Sociology (Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, 1985). She also completed a Certificate of Theological Study at Sewanee’s School of Theology (2017).
Her research focuses on minority responses to oppression, particularly through archival studies of racial integration in religious institutions and the legacy of Harlem Renaissance poet Anne Spencer. She co-founded the Anne Spencer House and Garden Museum and integrates primary-source research into her courses. Her teaching includes Academic Writing and Black Heroes: How Did Harlem Get to Lynchburg?, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches and community engagement.
Salmon serves as editor-in-chief of the student journal Agora and has pioneered service-learning initiatives linking classroom work to local historical projects. She is affiliated with the Westover Honors Research Center and contributes to initiatives in inclusive education.
