Nina Klymenko

Nina Klymenko serves as Professor in the Department of General Linguistics, Classical Philology and Neo-Hellenic Studies at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, a position held since 2016. Previously, she led the Department of Hellenic Studies (1999-2004) and the Department of Structural and Mathematical Linguistics (1986-2004) at the same institution, following extensive research work at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine since 1968. She holds the distinguished title of Correspondent Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

She pioneers interdisciplinary approaches integrating cognitive linguistics with computational methods, while maintaining strong foundations in classical philology and translation theory. Her scholarship consistently bridges theoretical frameworks with practical lexicographic applications.

Analysis of her publications reveals a clear evolution from foundational Ukrainian linguistics (1980s-1990s) toward comparative Hellenic-Ukrainian studies (2000s-present). Recent works demonstrate increasing focus on cultural transfer through translation, especially regarding Taras Shevchenko’s poetry, while maintaining core expertise in lexical semantics and morphological theory across both language systems.

Her methodological expertise encompasses ethnolinguistic text analysis and comparative translation studies between Ukrainian and Greek linguocultures.

The research group operates under her direction to investigate ethno-specific text production mechanisms across Ukrainian and Greek linguocultures, with current projects focused on word derivation, lexical semantics, pragmatics, and stylistics including genre theory of translation. This work integrates historical philological analysis with contemporary computational linguistics approaches.
