Nina Kirchner

Nina Kirchner serves as Professor of Glaciology at Stockholm University's Department of Physical Geography. She directs the Tarfala Research Station and regularly lectures at the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) Department of Arctic Geology. Her research focuses on ice sheet dynamics, glacier calving mechanisms, and climate change impacts on Arctic systems.

Her work combines field measurements (including 9+ months on Arctic research vessels and 5 months/year at Tarfala Station) with numerical modeling of glacier dynamics. Recent studies examine:

• Glacial history reconstruction via sediment cores and cosmogenic dating
• Remote sensing technology (drones, USVs) for polar environments
