Nina Cozzi

Nina Cozzi is a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, working on her doctoral project The gender pay gap in Italy: A history of the implementation of EU law as part of the Max Planck Fellow Group focused on Legal History of the European Union. Her institutional presence is confirmed until August 31, 2025.

Cozzi's research examines the historical trajectory of equal pay legislation in Italy, analyzing Article 37(1) of the 1948 Italian Constitution and Article 119 of the 1957 Treaty of Rome. Her work employs a two-directional analytical framework to investigate both Italy's contribution to shaping EU equal pay legislation and the subsequent reception of EU law within the Italian legal system. She also studies national collective agreements and their role in implementing equal pay across various sectors of the Italian workforce from the late 1950s onward.

Her doctoral project aims to identify the legal and historical factors contributing to the persistence of the gender pay gap in Italy despite decades of legislative efforts at both national and European levels.
