Nina Caputo is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Florida. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. Her work focuses on medieval Jewish history, interfaith relations in medieval Europe, and early modern Sephardic culture. She has held positions at the University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan, and Florida International University.
Caputo’s research interests include medieval Iberian religious dynamics, medieval Jewish communities, and the intersections of religion and politics. Her publications include Nahmanides in Medieval Catalonia (2007), Debating Truth (2017), and co-edited volumes such as On the Word of a Jew (2019). She is currently researching Jewish converts to Christianity in the medieval period.
Her awards include a Mellon Foundation Fellowship (Penn Humanities Center) and a Dorest Fellowship (Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies). Courses she teaches span medieval Jewish history, early modern Sephardic culture, and religious conflicts in medieval Europe. Her graduate students focus on medieval Jewish history and early modern cultural studies.
