Nina A. Kammerer is a Senior Lecturer at Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management and an affiliated faculty member in the Department of Anthropology. She specializes in qualitative research methods and public health, with a focus on HIV/AIDS, ethnic identity, and cultural heritage. Her research spans Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand, and Catalonia, Spain. She holds a PhD from the University of Chicago and an MPH from Boston University.

Research Focus: Kammerer’s work explores sociocultural factors influencing health outcomes, including HIV/AIDS prevention among highland minorities in Thailand and transgender communities in the U.S. Her recent research examines Catalan cultural traditions and their intersection with political movements in Catalonia. She has conducted long-term ethnographic studies among the Akha people of Northern Thailand and contributed to publications on asymmetric marriage, religious conversion, and Thai government policies.
