Dr. Nimesha Rathnayake is a Lecturer in the School of Engineering at RMIT University, Australia. Their research focuses on chemical engineering, environmental engineering, and waste management, with a particular emphasis on pyrolysis processes for biosolids and biomass valorization. Key areas include PFAS degradation, biochar production, and thermochemical conversion technologies. They teach courses such as Design Project 1, Engineering Science 1, and Chemical Engineering Computer Design.
Research interests span environmental management, wastewater treatment, and sustainable chemical processes. Recent work explores synergistic effects of co-pyrolysis with lignocellulosic biomass and alum sludge, as well as the fate of fluorine during thermal treatments. Publications highlight innovations in waste-to-energy systems and pollutant mitigation strategies through advanced pyrolysis techniques.
Dr. Rathnayake has contributed to over 11 peer-reviewed journal articles in high-impact publications like Renewable Energy and Chemical Engineering Journal. Their work integrates experimental trials with computational modeling to evaluate techno-economic viability of novel waste management technologies.
