Nima Arkani-Hamed is the Gopal Prasad Professor in the School of Natural Sciences at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS). He holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley (1997) and a BSc from the University of Toronto (1993). His research focuses on fundamental questions in particle physics, cosmology, and quantum field theory, including the nature of dark energy, extra dimensions, supersymmetry, and the multiverse.
Arkani-Hamed’s work bridges theoretical frameworks and experimental validation, particularly at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). He is renowned for proposing models like large extra dimensions and split supersymmetry, which address the hierarchy problem and dark matter. His collaborations include the development of the amplituhedron, a geometric object encoding scattering amplitudes in quantum field theory.
Key honors include the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics (2012) and the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Prize in Physics (2008). He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences. His contributions span theoretical physics, string theory, and the interplay between spacetime geometry and particle interactions.
