معرفی
Dr. Nils Deppe is an Assistant Professor of Physics at Cornell University, affiliated with the Departments of Astronomy and Physics within the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a BSc (Honors) in Mathematical Physics from the University of Winnipeg (2014) and a PhD in Physics from Cornell University (2020). His research focuses on numerical relativity and gravitational wave simulations, particularly mergers of black holes, neutron stars, and black hole-neutron star systems within the Simulating eXtreme Spacetimes (SXS) collaboration. He develops the SpECTRE code to improve computational efficiency and accuracy for next-generation gravitational wave observatories like LIGO and Virgo.
Research interests include turbulence in rotating stars, core-collapse supernovae simulations with collaborator Michael Pajkos, and advancing magnetohydrodynamics in relativistic contexts. His work ensures simulations provide precise gravitational waveforms for astrophysical model calibration.
- Awards: Sherman Fairchild Post-doctoral Fellowship (Caltech, 2020–2023).
- Advising: Mentors graduate students Nora Fayyazuddin Ljungberg and Henry Huang.
- Collaborations: SXS collaboration, SpECTRE development team, and contributions to LIGO Scientific Collaboration.
