Nils Bömer is a Professor at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Faculty of Medical Sciences and the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). He holds dual departmental memberships in the Metabolism and Transport (MT) and Nutrition Research in Medicine (NiM) groups. His work focuses on cardiovascular diseases, particularly heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and the role of micronutrients like selenium in disease pathophysiology.
His research integrates metabolomics and '-omics' approaches to understand disease mechanisms, emphasizing translational applications. He has contributed to studies on doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity, micronutrient deficiencies, and the classification of heart failure subtypes.
Bömer’s publications highlight interdisciplinary collaborations, exploring topics such as atrial fibrillation, genetic modifiers in cardiomyopathy, and longitudinal risk factors for heart failure. He serves on the editorial board of Nature Scientific Reports and is a member of the Young@Heart organization. As a co-supervisor, he supports doctoral research in cardio-immunology and heart failure mechanisms.
His media engagements emphasize public health aspects of cardiovascular care and micronutrient supplementation. Research interests align with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
