Nikolay Koshev is a Senior Lecturer at Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), specializing in computational neuroimaging and mathematical modeling of brain activity. He earned his Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences degree in 2012 after graduating from the Physics Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2008.
His research focuses on non-invasive brain imaging techniques such as magnetoencephalography (MEG), electroencephalography (EEG), and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). He explores how mathematical physics and statistics can decode brain signals, alongside work in biological magnetorelaxometry and electron microscopy. This interdisciplinary work bridges biology, physics, and computational methods.
Koshev has conducted research globally, including electron microscopy at Lomonosov Moscow State University and Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden), X-ray tomography at the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), and optical tomography at the University of North Carolina (USA). His current projects aim to advance MEG technologies and address challenges in sensor development.
As part of his outreach, he delivered a lecture on September 20, 2023, at the Boris Yeltsin Museum in Yekaterinburg, titled "Study of the Hidden: Non-invasive Brain Research." The lecture highlighted the synergy between biological systems, physical measurement techniques, and mathematical frameworks in modern neuroscience.
